OK, promise this will be the last time for the fungus among us headline…
Once again the wet conditions seem to have offered a good environment for the growth of a couple of mushrooms. These two popped up under our yard swing. The shade may have helped.
The fungus look stoned. Is the red in the second photo a little funglet among them?

The little red thing is a wild strawberry. Stay tuned, a post with a macro is coming tomorrow. And yes, I’m sure they are stoned.

One rather tall one appeared at the foot of our bird feeder. We have had rain on and off and now even on non rainy days it is very humid.

I recommend that you do not consume them! ☺️

It’s bone dry here (minus 50% humidity) and I spied large mushrooms after watering the backyard.

Not in months… Jan or Feb
Even then, it was light. We’re officially in drought again – voluntary water restrictions (but I practice them year tound).

Gosh, hope you get relief sooner than later.

Thanks. We typically only get rain between late Nov and mid Mar. Last year we totalled less than 4″.

Yes, in that all of SoCal is developed dessert. But, no… a beach city… Long Beach.

Living in a beach city must have some advantages.

Cooler weather, scenic drives, walking in the sand, swimming with waves, kayaking the bay, dog beaches, tide pools, ability to take overpriced whale watching cruises (rarely see whales), Catalina Island, surfers, cooler temps than inland, fog, fog horns, horns when massive container ships arrive in port, good scenery & sunsets – esp at ocean bars, and crazy people (Venice Beach).
I hear we have tons of high quality uni – but I don’t eat seafood.
I’m next to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The breakwater reduces waves but also traps filth in our beaches (as well it should!). If I want to go into the water, I head south.

I haven’t been fortunate enough to see dolphins from Pacific Coast Highway but I know people who have. When I used to take that way home, I’d hope for a red light right where the road height changes… perfect view/sound of waves and the 1st hints of bonfire. I’d roll down all my windows, even if it was stupidly cold, to smell the ocean/bonfire mix!!

Sounds like an interesting scent.

A mushroom walks into a bar and the bartender immediately throws him out. Mushroom says, “Aw, come on! I’m a fungi!” 🤣 I think your post title is great!
