We were on the hunt for a Geocache at a nearby park when we saw this praying mantis on an asphalt walking path. It didn’t move when I got down with the iPhone for a close up.

Down at the bottom of the hill behind the house there was a really tall plant that grew that had flowers that the butterfly loved. Praying mantis would hide on the plant and wait. It wasn’t unusual to see quite a few wings on the ground.

They usually don’t move for you. They are tough and they know it. I see it’s turned brown to match the trail.

They really are a scary looking predator, glad they are so small and only eat bugs.

They will pose for you, like they know you are taking their picture. I’ve had several pose for me and turn to look at the camera.

They will usually turn to stare when I get close. The way their head turns is a little creepy.

These little critters are really photogenic! I’ve got some pretty cool photos of one that was on my daughter’s hand one time. He sat and posed and sure looked interested in what we were doing. So cute. 🙂
