This rose has a hitchhiker

This rose has a hitchhiker on one of its petals. What looks like a small bee is actually a hoverfly. No, it is not a sweat bee, although many call it that. Hoverflies only have two wings. (Bees have four wings) It does like sweat on humans, and is also a great pollinator.

  1. We have various species of hoverfly in the UK. When we cpme across one, we try this trick: approach and hold out a single finger, remaining quite still. 5 times out of 10, the hoverfly will come and perch on the tip of the finger! I have no idea why they do this unless they are checking out this unusual “flower” for pollen!

  2. Fascinating that we live amidst so many beautiful creatures. Be it that pretty rose, the sweet hoverfly or the wonderful human who captured this ๐Ÿ˜‰ THIS is the real wonder of co-existence! Weโ€™re so diverse, yet need each other in so many ways.
Those guys are good pollinators, you say? Then canโ€™t wait to see that pretty roseโ€™s children! ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿค๐ŸŒน
