Sher and I are not traveling now due to coronavirus, so we thought we’d share some of our BC pictures with you. (BC = before COVID-19)
One of my favorite places on Earth is the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. This photo was taken in the Western Mountain District a few minutes before sunset. The stunning landscape is dotted with the magnificent saguaro cacti.
Memories of travel help get us through this time.

When I was working on my Masters degree at U of Arizona in Tucson I was also working full time for the US Soil Conservation Service. I was doing soil surveys, and spent days in the deserts and mountains. That’s when I learned to love the Sonoran Desert.

I see, it must have been wonderful to be out there so often. I’ve been down there a few times in that desert, rather different than our Mojave Desert.

It was a marvelous experience. There are so many remarkable things about the Sonoran ecology: both the flora and the fauna and the land.

It’s the geology that grabs me, so interesting!

I did my undergraduate work in geology, so I’m always having to know the geology of any place I am.

Cripes, we could talk for hours… I have zero formal training in geology like you, it’s a matter of physics, taking millions of years to alter the landscape just a bit at a time. I’d love to be able to visit the many geologic eras I’ve read about. With a snap of my finger!
