not sure. but we get a lot of red hooded woodpeckers (The Woody Woodpecker species) where we live. I saw one one time going away on a tree bout 20 feet away from me, and this dude was as big as a cat. It was huge.
They are so loud! We have them in the neighborhood. Our friends (and neighbors) had one decide to peck on their steel chimney. It was so loud inside that their teeth were rattling! They had to attach Mylar strips to the chimney to discourage them from attacking the chimney!!!
Your other commenters beat me to it, but definitely a female Downy. The Hairy WP is very close visually, but much larger in body and bill and not nearly as cute ha.
Cute little guy. It’s amazing how much noise they make.

I don’t know which specie this one is, but it’s amazing that they can do this so fast without breaking it’s beak or neck.

It’s a downy woodpecker. That’s the female. The male has a red head. I have them in my yard, they come to my suet feeder.

Thank you! We’ve seen the ones with the red top before, so it’s nice to know we might have a pair.

There are two species that are similar looking, the Downy and the Hairy Woodpecker. I agree with the other commenters, looks more like a Downy.
