Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota
As you drive past the entrance to Mt. Rushmore and head south, you’ll soon see a striking view of George Washington in profile. There is a decent sized strip lot for parking and viewing. Some stats: George’s face is 60 feet tall, his nose is 20 feet long and his mouth is 18 feet across. Oh, and don’t forget his eyes. They are 11 feet wide each.
Great photo! I’ve never been there.

My first thought was “Thatβs not George!” Then I realized you were talking about Washington, not Harrison. π

Mount Rushmore is truly remarkable and thank the Lord it is staying at four of the great Presidents!

That’s the best way to approach the monument. On the same road, this same spot, there was a mountain goat blocking traffic one time I was there. That’s one of the hazards of going there during tourist season!
Another time, I took a Dutch friend up to South Dakota so she could enjoy the wildlife of Custer State Park, then stop by Mount Rushmore before turning back south to Nebraska. It was a rainy day, but the biggest surprise was when we got to Mount. Rushmore and couldn’t see a thing because it was fogged over! Fortunately, when we got down to Custer, the Crazy Horse monument was fully visible and it is pretty impressive, too.

I had to smile at the bad luck of driving to Rushmore only to see fag! That’s when you say “Rats!” Those Mountain Goats are such wonderful animals.

Really impressive animals, especially when you see them navigating mountainsides! Bighorn sheep are equally impressive.
