It’s only 40 degrees F on a sunny mid-May morning. Still there is Nature’s beauty on display.

Red young growth on the rose is due to the presence of anthocyanins. This coloration protects the bush from UV rays .

The first rose bloom of the season
This rose bud is blooming on one of the rose bushes that we planted in our herb and flower garden during our COVID-19 isolation this spring/summer. This new bush has given us several pretty bloom events this summer.

I missed the rose in the first photo blooming yesterday. So out for pictures I go, and there to my delight is another bud starting to bloom (second photo). And then while taking the second photo low and behold I spotted yet another bud hiding under the rose in bloom. Three roses to share with you all.

A pretty bloom
Well, maybe not a crime scene, however some dastardly critter (most probably a rabbit) has stolen one of the two remaining rose buds from this rose bush. I suspect that the perpetrator of the rose bud theft is also responsible for the wanton destruction of a couple of our sweet corn seedlings in the garden.

This morning the first rose bud was opening up a bit. You can see there are two more in the wings so we’ll have three pretty soon.
Here’s some more images of some plants around the yard. We did get a nice thunderstorm this afternoon. I won’t have to water anything today.

We decided to use both sink compartments for flower plantings. We’ll get another something for a bird bath. Since we have put up the bird feeder our backyard has become very popular with the neighborhood avian population.

The rose bush is new, just got it planted a few days ago. We were surprised and happy to see the new bloom at the peak of the bush! Roses are so pretty…
