Remember the Alamo
“Remember the Alamo” echoes across history
The battle of the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar took place for 13 days, February 23 to March 6, 1836. The siege of the mission by Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna ended with the defenders being wiped out. The Alamo remains one of the most revered historic sites in Texas. We’ve visited a couple of times, and you can feel the history there.

Return trip to Harmony Winery
We discovered the Harmony Winery last summer when we were set up at the Highway 40 yard sale a few miles down the road. The winery is in Knightstown on Historic US 40 in a building that used to house a chicken hatchery at the turn of the century. The wines we tried last June during a tasting really impressed us. Thus we were ready for yet another tasting flight of any of the new selections available.

There were several new wines and some old favorites in the case that we purchased. It is always fun to try new and different wines. The people who own and run Harmony Winery are friendly, helpful and always carry our case of wine to the car. It is one of our favorite places to visit.
An afternoon outing
Yesterday early afternoon we made a quick trip to the store. Horrors of horrors we were completely out of trash bags! Anyway, after we purchased those bags we all (our son was with us) decided we needed and wanted to eat.
Applebee’s sounded like a reasonable choice. The place was not busy and we were seated immediately. The placard on the table proudly announced half price appetizers. Those sounded good!
The frozen strawberry margaritas were great
We had a most enjoyable time together. The appetizers were very tasty and filling! We actually had a need for a couple of doggie bags (actually boxes) for take home. We really enjoy these kind of outings, and this one was extra fun because our son came with us. Oh, and on the way home we spotted a bald eagle! (Eagle picture here)

Love these warm temperatures and the bright sunlight melting the snow. There is a chance of some more snow tonight, hopefully with not much accumulation.

Ducks enjoying an icy river
Went for a drive today. Here’s what we saw.
These fine feathered friends of ours were certainly enjoying their afternoon romping in the river. Hop on the ice, jump in the water, swim a bit, hop back on the ice, repeat, repeat again. Ducks have a fine life.
Banalinga stones from India
These naturally weathered stones are found in only one riverbed in the world. That is the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh state in central India. These stones are considered sacred, are an iconic symbol of worship and are ancient and connote divinity.

The shape of these stones, regardless of their size, are created naturally during the course of the flowing water and movement of the river bed sediments. It is quite the phenomena that these stones are found in only one place on Earth.
Dinner tonight
We’d been basically stuck at home for the past few days via snow and stupid cold temperatures. Somehow pizza sounded pretty good for dinner tonight.

The car was a challenge to get the doors open, wipers free and 10 inches of snow removed. But with our son’s help we got it dug out. It needed to get started anyway, so our son picked up our online order at Papa Johns. Yummy and a nice break from cooking at home.
