Columbus Indiana’s award winning Mill Race Park

Columbus Indiana’s Mill Race Park is located on a flood plain on the west side of downtown. The award winning design takes that in account, for example, the restrooms are made to allow the annual flooding to flow through the glass block buildings with no damage.

Inside showing bridge trusses

One of my favorite parts of the park is the beautiful relocated covered bridge. Originally built in 1840 over the White River, it was rebuilt in 1995 at Mill Race Park. It remains the only Long Truss Structure in the state.

Morgan County Heroes

There is a remarkable black granite three sided monument dedicated to the men of Morgan County, Indiana who gave their lives in 20th century wars. Starting with the French and Indian Wars up to and including the War on Terrorism, this monument speaks to the ultimate sacrifices made throughout the centuries. The honors are flanked by Old Glory, Indiana’s State Flag, and the black POW*MIA flag.

The Memorial is located in small plaza across street from the courthouse in downtown Martinsville, Indiana. I could not find a date of dedication, , the first reference I found was 2009.

A wet start to 2022

Rain falling, dripping off the Christmas lights

We are starting 2022 off with a drab and wet day here in central Indiana. It’s been raining all morning and the rain continues as this post is written. We’ve had about a half inch of precipitation since early this morning. It’s suppose to stop later this afternoon, then colder temps move in.

We usually take down the Christmas decorations before New Years Day. Too much crummy weather has kept us from taking down the outside lights yet. It is not fun nor really safe to mess with the ladder when it’s raining!

The temperatures are going to drop overnight tonight. We could easily see snowfall tomorrow morning when we wake up! Oh well, it is January. Hopefully your weather is not bad for the start of New Year 2022.
