This is the time of year when the Sandhill Cranes head back north. Usually you hear them first, then have to search the skies for the typical “V” shaped formations. While the normal flying altitude is around 5,000 feet, they have been known to fly as high as 12,000 feet.
Took this picture this afternoon in our backyard. You have to look closely!

It is really quite fun hearing them, and then having to peer up into the sky looking for them. Sometimes they are so high you never find them, but still hear them!

We still have several hangers on, but their numbers are less each day as they head north. Good recording of their distinctive call. We’ve had 50 to 100 of them fly low over our house every morning and evening all announcing their presence loudly for the past 5 months. With fewer cranes I notice the quiet.

I love Sandhill Cranes! There used to be lots of them where I used to live. I miss them a lot!

We boondocked in a place in AZ where thousands of sandhill cranes roost. It was amazing to see and hear them and camp amongst them.

They sound like newbies playing the trumpet. We had a Gray Heron stop by our pond one year. He ate most of my goldfish and pierced the lining. I managed to save the rest of the fish as the water seeped out from the pond.

I still have the pond with no fish. The boars have taken over the pond and have a mud bath every night. I love animals.

Glad our deer are back… We’re doing fine, and will get our 2nd dose of Moderna tomorrow. Whew!

We’re getting ours soon because our family members are immunosuppressed, my DIL with MS and my GC with diabetes type 1. We’ll get Pfizer thank goodness. The AstraZeneca vaccine is dangerous. Many patients died in Italy after getting that vaccine. Crazy!

We got our shots but the only one available was AstraZeneca. We were about 50 in the hall with a two hour wait, it was crazy. I’m crossing my fingers everything goes well in the next few weeks. You okay?

We are doing quite well, thank you! Today we are “fully vaccinated” i.e. two weeks since our 2nd Moderna jab. We’re going to our son’s this afternoon to see our new grandson (born Dec 20th) for the first time! Then Easter to another son’s new house we’ve never seen in Ohio. So yes we’re CAREFULLY starting to get out. Take care! 🙂
