A new Rover lands on Mars this afternoon!

The new Rover Perseverance is landing on Mars this afternoon! It launched on July 30, 2020 and has been traveling through space since. It is going to land on what was a lake bed millions of years ago. There will be studies of the material that may have fossil remains of previous life on the red planet. There will also be a microphone on board to hear the Martian winds.
It lands just before 4 PM EST today, February 18th, 2021. This is the NASA website that will broadcast live from Mission Control starting at 3:15 PM EST. Check this out, this is an amazing mission.

This reminds of the viewing when NASA landed on the moon in 1969. (Has it been that long ago?)

While amazing, I still do not support these missions to a dead world. My belief is that we humans need to fix our world first. The billions spent both private or otherwise are not worth it. That money should be used to help humanity first. Sorry, not trying to be negative.

That is very cool. I loved watching all the space activities in the late 60s. It’s fascinating to see what they will find on Mars.

Reminds me of the moon landing in July 1969. Back then we knew about every launch, who was aboard and what the mission was.

True. I loved all the space stuff. I still like it. We visited the Space Port east of T or C in 2012. Since there is a large no fly zone in that area because of White Sands Missile Range and the air force bases, the rockets and space ships have easy launching and landing without worrying about other aircraft.

Also for launching. The people in the rocket clubs have to get clearance to launch the model rockets out here these days.
