Road construction in the middle of our town continues this winter
Yes there are crews working today
What you see used to be a traffic circle. The new plan calls for the cross streets to intersect in the middle, passing straight through the town square. Right now there is one lane each way running around one side of the old traffic circle. It’s quite confusing.
Roadtirement 
The snow probably adds to the confusion I guess.

So they are going back to a traffic light? Our little town went crazy and now we only have one stoplight and that is on the State Highway crossroads. Every street that intersected with another was turned into a traffic circle. They couldn’t be happy with JUST a traffic circle after a few were completed…….then they placed traffic circles where you had to cross over and drive on the opposite side of the road and then get to the traffic circle……….it was a mess for a long time and the older folks had a time adjusting! The town is always doing TRAFFIC STUDIES and spending money! We live in a town of 11,000, so not much traffic to begin with!

What is hilarious is that over the decades the “circle” or “square” (depending on what your folks said,) has changed many times from an intersection to traffic circle and back. Those traffic study companies are making a killing!

I still like the roundabout better, Las Vegas must have dozens of them. A better way to move traffic.

The traffic circle they took out was set up the opposite from roundabouts, i.e. the right of ways and yields were to opposite of roundabouts. Thus people from out of town ran the yield lanes and stopped when they had the right of way.

The original engineering was in place since the late 1940’s, decades before the current roundabout designs were used. Both work, it’s just what you’re used to. And it helps if drivers pay attention to traffic signs, LOL.

Orange barrels have been election issues in these parts. Excellent photo.

I don’t know how it works out here, but I know a lot of the barriers for road construction are put up by contractors. I don’t know if they own the orange barrels, or they rent them or NMDOT owns them and distributes them to contractors.

Here in Indiana the large road contractors not only own their barrels, cones and such, but have their company logos all over them. Miles and miles of mini billboards!

No name, generic orange barrels and cones out here. I think a lot of times the DOT just likes to annoy drivers. There’s orange barrels blocking off a lane of the off ramp to Lead and Coal from I-25 that have been there for 3 weeks now. I can’t see that there is any construction activity, whatsoever. It’s really annoying.
